Meet The Artist - short interview
What is the subject of the exhibition?
Bert Alan: In a way it is my take on The Dying Swan from The Swan Lake. But there’s also a sense of freedom that I get when I’m surrounded by that wonderful blue sky that somehow is full of energy, emotion and answers, and that, mixed with the perfection and the talent of an amazing dancer, with a beautiful skin that shimmers in the sunshine, makes it all come together in a heavenly dreamy way.
What has inspired you to create this exhibition?
Bert Alan: I often get ‘lost’ in the big blue sky…in a good way. Whenever I need to recharge or make a decision or simply meditate or even day dream a bit, I just like to spend time with the Big Blue…Swan Lake is one of my favorite ballet and I wanted to capture some of the beauty and the emotion of The Dying Swan, my favorite part…So 1+1 equals a lost swan :)
How have you chosen your dancer? Is there anything in particular about the dancer?
Bert Alan: I’ve seen his profile on Instagram when I was in still in London and was looking forward to collaborate with him here in Barcelona. The defined yet slender body, delicate but strong, the hard work that he’s put in so far and not to mention the kindness of this beautiful human being made working with him an extraordinary experience which I would gladly repeat over and over again, he has so much to offer.
Please write few words about your working process
Bert Alan: I like clean lines. I like to dream. I like the freedom of being me. I like feelings, whether is love, anger, sadness, or lust. I like vulnerability. I like truth. I like honesty. I like natural. I like hard work. I like perfection, in my own way. And I mix all that in my work.
About the print and paper
'A professional art print made using the very best high definition equipment and finest materials, all overseen by master printers.
We print on fine art paper coated with a slightly stippled texture giving a very natural photographic finish with subtle colour. Great versatile paper, very natural and works well with all photographic images. Maintains colours in a very natural way, giving a detailed, 3-dimensional beautiful photographic reproduction.'
About the aluminium mounting
'Aluminium is a premium option, it is strong, heavyweight and as such is durable and has a longevity to it that softer materials would not provide. The aluminium edges can be seen on the sides of the print which gives it a stark, industrial and architectural aesthetic.'
