Biography
Bert Alan is an independent photographer whose Lost Swan series explores flight, vulnerability, freedom and the sculptural line of the dancing body against open sky. In an archived first-person interview with Dance Artworks Gallery, Alan identifies Swan Lake and The Dying Swan as direct points of departure for the project.
Practice
Alan describes a practice drawn to clean lines, emotional directness, vulnerability, natural settings and the freedom of open sky. In Lost Swan, these concerns converge around a dancer whose body moves between strength, delicacy and suspension.
