Howard Schatz (Américain, né en 1940) a reçu une formation de spécialiste de la rétine à l'Université John Hopkins. Howard Schatz a travaillé comme ophtalmologiste avant de se tourner vers la photographie dans les années 1990. Les antécédents de Schatz en anatomie et biologie humaines jouent un rôle important dans sa pratique. Qu'il travaille sur film ou sur composites numériques, Schatz se concentre sur les spécificités de la forme humaine et les détails de la lumière et de la couleur. Ses images techniquement magistrales remettent en question les représentations traditionnelles du corps. Schatz a reçu de nombreux prix pour son travail, dont le National Press Photographers Association Award en 2011.
