Biography

Sasha Onyshchenko is a Montreal-based photographer specializing in portrait and ballet photography. A former professional ballet dancer, he moved into full-time photography in 2010 and brings an embodied understanding of movement, form and performance to his work with dancers, musicians and artists.

Practice

Onyshchenko approaches dancers as a portraitist. Rather than using technical virtuosity as the subject, he looks for character, stage presence and individual expression, using his ballet background to direct movement with precision.

Curator's note

Onyshchenko’s strongest contribution to the gallery is the combination of portrait thinking and first-hand ballet knowledge. Paper, edition, signature and certificate claims are governed by individual artwork records.
