About this artwork
The whirlwind of life was inspired by the chronophotography work of Eadweard Muybridge. A female silhouette spins, legs and hands echoing each other in shades of white and beige. The work of white oil, scratched and worked into matter, gives an impression of softness and suspended time.
Gagosian curator Rita Cerciello wrote about this series: “The vetro opaco (frosted glass) effect emanates from the works, and the subtlety of the textures seems to carry a hidden and seductive mystery. The artist’s blending of opaque surfaces and delicate contrasts of color creates an illusion of depth and mystery, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the work repeatedly. The palette suggests a dance between fragility and strength. The surfaces seem to vibrate, capturing the light in ways that blur the boundaries between tangible reality and dreamlike states.”
