Original Work
An original work is the unique physical artwork itself rather than a numbered edition or reproduction. Its material surface, marks and handling belong to that singular object.

About the Work
Le Tourbillon de la Vie — Corinne Malfreyt
Original Painting | Acrylic and Oil on Canvas | 120 × 100 cm
Le Tourbillon de la Vie (The Whirlwind of Life) was inspired by the chronophotography of Eadweard Muybridge. A female silhouette spins, legs and hands echoing each other in shades of white and beige. Oil worked into the surface and scratched while fresh gives an impression of softness and suspended time — movement rendered as both physical fact and atmospheric sensation.
Gagosian curator Rita Cerciello wrote of this series: “The vetro opaco effect emanates from the works, and the subtlety of the textures seems to carry a hidden and seductive mystery. The artist’s blending of opaque surfaces and delicate contrasts of color creates an illusion of depth and mystery, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the work repeatedly. The palette suggests a dance between fragility and strength. The surfaces seem to vibrate, capturing the light in ways that blur the boundaries between tangible reality and dreamlike states.”
